Philips on green and energy efficiency

Hayleys Lighting partnered with Philips at the Vidulka exhibition organised by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority to showcase their range of 'green' lighting.

This eco friendly range of Philips lighting focuses on energy efficiency that combines design for purpose driven specialty needs of a wide range of industries.

On display were luminaries for commercial, industrial and architectural applications.

Philips Green lighting and solutions reduce running costs and provide a better quality of light to energize bodies and rejuvenate minds due to less eye fatigue and to improve performance levels. In a commercial establishment appropriate lighting can also add a new dimension by defining and enhancing the identity and image of the company.

Good lighting has the power to make a statement and create first impressions that last, a new aspect that lighting experts factor into their designs.

Philips aims to inspire a greener life. Lighting is one of the most attractive and easiest ways to conserve energy.

Approximately two thirds of all lighting installed around the world is based on older, less energy efficient lighting. Simple changes can have profound results, as efficient lighting saves money, reduces energy consumption, and carbon emissions into the environment. Energy efficient general lighting has the potential to achieve an average energy saving of 40 percent.

Reducing power consumption by phasing out energy inefficient lamps gearing to a strict timetable is spearheaded by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority.

Phasing off of GLS bulbs with the propagation of CFLs and LED's, Philips with features such as lower mercury content, higher light efficacy, and a 40 percent smaller compact bulb that could be used with most architectural fittings, lends itself to aesthetically sensitive surroundings.

Going green is no longer a choice but a responsibility. Progress, development and survival will depend on how green we become minimizing our carbon footprint.

A simple switch is what Philips advocates and Hayleys, the local agent for Philips in Sri Lanka being a signatory to the UN Global Compact, undertakes initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility and encourages the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies of which next generation efficient green lighting technologies are one.
