Novel program to identify talents

The Higher Education Ministry will introduce a new talent identification and appreciation program among university students to develop their talents in the fields of art, culture and literature. The Ministry intends to introduce this program among nearly 80,000 students in 15 universities countrywide from January next year, Higher Education Ministry Secretary Dr.Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

According to Ministry Secretary university students are mostly seen on television or media if they had engaged in any demonstration or if they were assaulted due to some clash. In order to change this attitude, the Ministry has decided to assist university students to further develop their talents.

This special program will identify various hidden talents of university students and help them to develop their talents to a professional level with the assistance of eminent personalities specialising in those areas, he said.

The Ministry will conduct various competitions with the media to show the creative talents and new innovations of university students to the public in fields such as art, drama, literature and research.
