Students leaving for UK cautioned
Sri Lankan students who leave for the UK to pursue their studies
should possess a clear understanding of their study programs and the
financial situation in the UK, said President, HOUNSLOW Sri Lanka
Janahanda Foundation in the UK, Sri Lal Dias.
He said student visa holders face enormous difficulties when they
arrive in the UK due to lack of funds. Very often they fall victim to
bogus study agents, he said.
In the UK students are eligible to work only 10 hours a week, the
income of which is not sufficient even for food.
While over 2.5 million British citizens are facing unemployment,
foreigners have very little job opportunities, he said.
Dias said the prospective students should closely scrutinise the
study programs and financial arrangements before leaving for the UK.
