Ajith Bandara and B. Anuradhi win marathon races

MARATHON WINNERS: A. M. Ajith Bandara of North Western Province and B. G. L. Anuradhi of North Western Province secured first places in the men's and women's marathon races held in Wellaway in connection with the 36th National Sports Festival to be held in Kandy in October this year.

In the men's race, A. M. Ajith Bandara of North Western Province won in 2 hours 23 minutes and 9 seconds, in second place was R. M. J. A. Ratnayake also of North Western Province in 2 hours 25 minutes 46 seconds, Third was H. R. Nimal Vijitha Bandara of Sabaragamuwa Province in 2 hours 29 minutes 3.0 secs; 4th came B. Upul Vijitha Kumara of Southern Province in 2 hours 30 minutes and 20 seconds, 5th came T. P. B. Somaratne of Central Province in 2 hours 33 minutes and 31 seconds.

In the women's event B. G. L. Anuradhi of Central Province was the winner in 3 hours 37 seconds with M. A. R. Deepani of Eastern Province coming second in 3 hours 01 minute 11 seconds. D. A. Inoka of Central Province came in third with a timing of 3 hours 06 minutes 19 seconds, R. A. M. Dilhara of North Western Province was fourth in 3 hours 08 minutes 04 seconds and E. W. N. K. Premaratne of Central Province came in fifth in 3 hours 14 minutes and 35 seconds.
