Nadeera Jayasekera six events six Golds!
SWIMMING: Nadeera Jayasekera of Visakha Vidyalaya was the most
outstanding swimmer winning six Gold medals in all six events she
participated in the under-16 category at the National Age Group Swimming
Championships conducted by SLASU and held at the Ananda College pool.
At this meet, Nadeera also established a new meet record in the 50
metres Back Stroke 'clocking' 34.62 secs. Earlier the record was held by
Chathuru Abeykoon 34.96 secs in 2003.
The teenager Nadeera, the swim marvel of Visakha Vidyalaya won the
200 metres Individual Medley, 50 m and 100 m Back Stroke, 100 m Breast
Stroke, 50 m and 100 m Free Style, at the Age Group Swimming Meet.
She has been in the limelight since 2006 when she participated in the
Novices Swimming Championship of SLASU. Nadeera Jayasekera also became
the under-16 champion at the Pentathlon Swimming Championship 2010 and
the under-16 champion at the 37th Sri Lanka Schools Swimming
Championships 2010 concluded recently. Nadeera have also swum in the
Chennai Schools and Sri Lanka Schools Dual Swim Meets held in Chennai
and Colombo and she became the junior champion on both occasions.
She has been winning many laurels. She is Visakha Vidyalaya's best
bet at the coming Nationals and with her dedication she is certain to go
places.
Her main ambition now is to swim at the 13th South Asian Games to be
held in India in 2012 and gain experience and to continue her winning
ways and win medals for the country at international level at the meets.
