My father made me a world renowned model

I was fortunate to be born to an Italian father and an Irish mother. My father needs no introduction.

His name is associated with many different devices in everyday use and has long been a household name. Of the seven wonders of every day life, the telephone, the gramophone, the radio, the film, television, the motor car, and the aeroplane. The most far-reaching achievement is the radio.

My father was none other than the great inventor Guglielmo Marconi born at Bolonga on April, 25, 1874 in Italy. As a child Marconi did not do well in school. From his early years, Marconi had an interest in science and electricity. He was keenly interested in electrical research; he was greatly affected by Hertz’ discovery of electric waves.

It was not long before speculation on Hertz’ work led him to the idea that these waves might in the not too distant future furnish mankind with a new and powerful means of communication. While Marconi continued experimenting he saw his work being particularly applied with success. He installed the first wireless apparatus on a light ship enabling to keep in communication with other lighthouses. In later years Marconi returned to the practical side of wireless and made a great improvement in low-power shortwave transmission. The radio was invented as a new dimension of sound.

My father didn’t make me for nothing. He wouldn’t have made me at all. He could have done his work without me. He made me because he knew I had a bright future. He worked hard to bring me up and make me a world renowned model. I being the only child he gave me all the comforts he could afford.

With his ever increasing popularity by inventing the radio which opened a new era in the history of mankind, the great inventor was showered with many honours, chief among them, being the nobel prize for physics awarded to him. Next he became a member of the Italian Senate and later conferred the highest honour marquis by the state.

He made radio history by improving sending messages to moving trains and ships.

He modified my figure and added more components by assembling a speaker, a transformer, an amplifier and a receiving frequency unit in one cubical box and gave his name Marconi. At times I was known as a magic box. The new wave bands gave a better sound system and opened new vistas to the world. Manufacturers produced more and more.

My popularity was high and Marconi became a household name. As I advanced in age new transmissions were introduced allowing the greatest use of channels.

Many entertaining programs, news readers, DJ’s, singing stars were born through me. The whole world looked upon my lifestyle, and Marconi became the brand name for radio. Today I live as a proud and happy person who has contributed very much to society.

The radio with its ever increasing benefits in every sphere of human activity, knit a new world together and opened a new era in the history of mankind.

It was my father the magician who tapped time with his wand became known to the world as Gugliemo Marconi.
