Facelift for Uda Walawa National Park
by Nimal WIJAYATUNGA Eheliyagoda Special Cor.
The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council is constructing a new entrance
and a network of roads to the interior of the Uda Walawa National Park
at a cost of Rs. 2.2 million.
These improvements are being done on the request of Sabaragamuwa
Chief Minister, Mahipala Herath.
This will pave the way for the local and foreign tourists to visit
several important places such as Bellanbendipelessa from where the skull
of the ancient Balangoda Manawayas was found. In addition to the new
entrance and the network of roads, 18 small bridges are also being
constructed at a cost of Rs. 6.4 million. There are about 900 elephants
roaming in the park.
Steps have been taken to restore the five ruined tanks in Uda Walawa
National Park.
