Making Kandy an eco-friendly city

Making the Kandy City eco-friendly has become a national issue of
this Government for which the President Mahinda Rajapaksa has shown a
keen interest.
This Government has plans to make it an eco-friendly and allocated Rs.
4,000 million for the purpose.
Within three years the proposed development projects such as the
development of Katugastota_Kandy road, widening of William Gopallawa
Mawatha, sub-roads from the Bogambara Prison area Buwelika, together
with a flyover bridge to Dalada Maligawa from the Kandy Railway Station.
There will be restrictions on parking. No vehicles will be allowed to
park on the stretch from Girls High School, upto the Clock Tower from 7
to 8 a.m.
Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Mahindananda Aluthgamage who
presided said these decision were taken at the District Coordinating
Committee (DCC) meeting at the Kandy District Secretariat.
Trade stalls, behind the rail track on the main road in a health
hazard and causes inconvenience to the public.
They too will be cleared Deputy Minister Aluthgamage said.
An alternative location at a suitable place is being
discussed.Provincial Council member Keshela Jayawardane said that there
is a guest house of ill fame where girls attending private tuition
classes seemed to be housing around and asked the police to investigate.
Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayaka and Kandy District MP
Dilum Amunugama were present.
