Four UNP dissidents expelled
by Ananda KANNANGARA
The UNP Working Committee yesterday expelled four MPs Abdul Cader,
Nimal Wijesinghe, Upeksha Swarnamali and Manusha Nanayakkara from party
membership, for not obeying party decisions.
A decision in this regard was taken at the party's Working Committee
meeting, presided over by party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at "Sirikotha"
yesterday.
The party leader said that UNP Annual Convention will be held in
December without any further postponement.
UNP, media spokesman Gayantha Karunatillaka told the Sunday Observer
that several proposals that were submitted by the UNP Reforms Committee
at the meeting will be implemented within the next ten days.
He said the party membership of dissident UNP MPs Lakshman
Seneviratne and Earl Gunasekara has been held up due to a pending
Colombo District Court decision.
Asked about the decision taken by UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara and few
others to act independently at the Parliament on September 23,
Karunatillaka said that such a decision was not officially made known to
the party leadership.
