Ratnam trounce Saunders 1 - 0

Ratnam Sports Club from Kotahena who are making great effort to reach top of the Dialog Premier League 2010 came up with a superb show yesterday to beat Saunders SC one goal to nil at City Football Complex at half time both teams failed to score.

It was evenly contested during the first session of play though the Ratnam SC had most possession of the ball. They controlled the game for nearly fifteen minutes and made many good moves to their opponents territory but failed to find the right target to score. Saunders on the other too played sensibly while defending their territory. At times they too moved closer to the opponents' goal line but could not do the finishing touches to find the most wanted goal.

After the turn around Ratnam SC players came up with a different playing style which Saunder players could not match. This resulted in them going ahead with the goal being scored by Asanka Rangana. This put Ratnam SC's morale high and were on the run to find more goals. The Saunders defenders at this stage put on a grand show.

Saunders SC suffered a big blow in the 60th minute when Sameera Perera was found guilty for dangerous play and was sent off the field. This brought them more pressure as they had to continue for nearly 30 minutes with 10 players. Taking the advantage from this Ratnam's strikers went on an all out attack to add more goals, but this was thwarted by Saunders defenders and the custodian.

Saunders-Ratnam clash is one of the best games the spectators are eagerly waiting to watch in almost every major tournament as it always produces good soccer for the fans. Referee G.N. Rubesh.

Two more Saunders players were sent off the field during the injury time by the referee.
