Mega health projects for North

Mega health projects will be implemented in the North at a cost of Rs.
1,160 million to improve the health sector in the peninsula to provide a
better health service to the people.
These projects will be implemented in 2011 and 2012, Northern
Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri said.
The Governor said that the Government has planned to implement
development projects under the "Uthuru Wasanthaya" Northern development
drive to improve the health sector in the North.
Five hospitals will be renovated and OPDs will be opened in 20
hospitals under the "Uthuru Wasanthaya" program.
Meanwhile 12 medical officers' quarters will be built and a ward will
be constructed to accommodate 200 patients.
Health sector upgrading projects were implemented this year at a cost
of Rs. 531 million.
The 43 health projects implemented in the North under the "Uthuru
Wasanthaya" program are progressing well, he said.
The renovation and construction of hospitals, Regional Health
Directors' Offices, wards, accident service units and medical officers'
quarters in progress at a cost of nearly Rs. 363 million.
Medical equipment worth Rs. 168 million have been provided to
hospitals in Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu, the Governor said. |
