Elders visit North

The Elders Association has organised a trip to Nagadeepa and Jaffna Peninsula to mark Universal Elders' Day on the instructions of Social Service Minister G.M. Karunapala and the staff of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Kegalle district.

Seventy-eight elders from the Kegalle district Elders Association participated on the first trip.

The funds for the three-day trip was borne by the Social Service Ministry of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council.

The Elders visited Nagadeepa Vihara and a number of places of historical interest in the Jaffna Peninsula.

Several members of the Kegalle Social Service Department also joined along with the elders to explain the significance of the visit to religious and historical sites.

The elders were also taken to places of interest where the war heroes battled the LTTE and to venues where the soldiers made the supreme sacrifice.

Kegalle District Social Service Officers R. Jayaratne, D.P.S. Randeniya, Madhara Premaratne and B. Sarath also participated.
