195 IDP families resettled in Mullaithivu

The 195 internally displaced families comprising 633 persons were resettled in the Karaithuraipatru Divisional Secretariat Division in the Mullaithivu district last week, Mullaithivu District Secretary R. Wethanayahan said.

They were brought to Mullaithivu from the Menik farm welfare centre in special buses.

They were resettled in Neeravippatti South and the Karaithuraipatru Divisional secretariat divisions last week, he said.

According to Kilinochchi District Secretariat sources, most of the families in the Kilinochchi District have been resettled. The Internally displaced persons have been resettled in 88 Grama Niladhari (GS) divisions.

There was no resettlement in seven Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Palai Divisional Secretariat Division as the land-mines had not been cleared, sources of the Kilinochchi District Secretariat Office said.

The de-mining process which took time was the prime cause for the delay in resettlement.

The 36,294 internally displaced families comprising 114,470 persons have been resettled in their original homes, the sources said.
