Madhawee Weeratunga Best Sportswoman at Mahamaya Girls College

COLOURS AWARDS: Swimmer Madhawee Weeratunga who represented
Sri Lanka at the Youth Olympics held in Singapore in April this year,
was adjudged the Best Sportswoman of Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy at
the annual Colours Awards Ceremony held at the college auditorium.
The Minister of Sports R.M.C.B. Ratnayake and Mrs. Geetha Ratnayake
were the chief guests at the ceremony.
The ‘Pahana Award’ which is the highest award for sports, was
conferred on 13 students.
There were also 80 students who received Colours for different sports
and there were 203 students who received merit awards. There were
special awards for 23 students and Best Performance Awards were received
by seven students.
‘Pahana’ is awarded to students who received Colours for three
consecutive years. Colours are awarded to students who obtained a place
in the All -Island tournaments. Special awards were given to the under
15 students who obtained a place in the All-Island tournaments.
Best Performance awards are given to students who represent Sri Lanka
in International Contests.

Wickremasinghe (Table Tennis), Cpl S. Wijesiri, Cpt. B.C. Liyanage, Cpl.
C.S. Ranasinghe, Cpl. M. Ratnayake, Cpl. K. Kulasekera, Sgt. U.C.
Waidyanatha, Cdt. W. Yapa, Cdt. R. Bandara (all for Cadeting),
Chaturanganee Siriwardena and Dharshika Malwana (Chess), Sunethra
Wijeratne (Swimming).
Best Performance Awards for: Ayeshani Weerakkody (Hockey), Madhawi
Weeratunga (Swimming), Heshani Wickremasinghe and Chandima Madhushani
(Table Tennis), Anjana Perera (Chess), Akshana Maralanda (Athletics) and
Navoda Agalapitiya (Hockey). |
