Much awaited UNP Convention today

The UNP Convention, which had been eagerly looked forward to by the majority membership will be held today from 9.00 a.m. at the party headquarters “Sirikotha” at Pitakotte with the participation of over 12,500 supporters.

Most members are anxiously waiting to see the approval of the new party constitution which provides for the election of five top officials including the party leader through a secret ballot in the absence of a consensus.

Most of the proposed reforms which were submitted by the various interested groups were approved by the Working Committee earlier and they will be ratified by the Convention today. Party sources said that the Convention would be historic where all remedial measures will be taken to fully strengthen the party and regain power at a future election.
