Sri Lanka Post and Mobitel initiate SMART Reload

Sri Lanka Post the national postal service in partnership with Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel the national mobile service provider launched a novel concept of distributing Pre Paid Reload to Mobitel SMART Pre Paid customers at their doorstep, through postmen across 25 districts in the country.

This ground breaking concept is a ‘world’s first’ in the mobile telecommunication arena. Since the inception of the integration work in November 2009, Sri Lanka Post with the strength of 7750 registered post men and its ability to reach nearly 4.5 million households across the island, is now equipped to sell Mobitel SMART Reload at the comfort of the consumers home. Also part of this unique service enables Mobitel Uphara, Post Paid and M3 broadband bill payments over 640 post offices and 3500 sub post offices will offer Mobitel SMART Reload.

The districts where a reload can be obtained through postmen are Puttalam, Gampaha, Kurunegala, Colombo, Kegalle, Kandy, Matale, Polonnaruwa, Anurdhapura, Trincomale, Batticaloa, Nuwara-Eliya, Badulla, Ampara, Moneragala, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle, Matara and Hambantota. This service will be available in the Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Killinochchi, Vavuniya and Mannar districts shortly.

Minister of Post Jeevan Kumaratunga said “The post office being a main centre for communication in a village, will join hands with Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel to enable the community with personalised service”, he continued “Postal service with its rich history in many parts of the world continues to play a crucial duty as a leading service provider.

Despite the development of ICT in driving the GDP of the country, Sri Lanka Post remains a strong supporter of this endeavour through its services. Post remains a major source of income to a nation with over a billion users patronising its services for personal and commercial activities.”
