Ramith Rambukwella breezes past one lakh mark
Royal captain Ramith Rambukwella became only the second cricketer to
poll more than 100,000 votes in the 33-year-old history of the
Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Contest.
The hard-hitting Royal middle order batsman who scored twin fifties
in the 'Big Match' and an unbeaten century in the Royal-Thomian limited
over game, polled over 18,000 votes during last week's count alone to
total a massive 116,101 votes in the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular
Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year All-Island Contest.
Only former Peterite captain Angelo Perera had previously polled over
100,000 votes in the history of Observer-Mobitel cricket contest.
Joining the select band of schoolboy cricketers to poll more than
100,000 votes after Angelo Perera and Rambukwella are Anandian spinner
Sachithra Perera and Royal batsman Bhanuka Rajapakse who are currently
occupying the second and third slots in the All-Island Contest.
