Divi Naguma to benefit rural women

Minister of Child Development and Women’s Affairs Tissa Karalliyadde presents seeds and planting material to a recipient.

The aim of the Divi Naguma program is to improve the nutrition level and living standards of families, said Child Development and Women's Affairs Minister Tissa Karalliyadde.

He said that 84,390 families representing rural women's societies will participate in the Divi Naguma one million domestic economic units program. Explaining the aim of the Divi Naguma program to the women development officers present at the Tower Hall Theatre, the Minister said the people's active participation is essential for its success.

"People in rural areas cultivated food crops such as vegetables and fruits in their home gardens. This helped them improve their family economy.

"It is time to revive those practices. So that the rural economy could be strengthened", he said.

The Divi Naguma project will help improve development activities launched by the Child Development and Women's Affairs Ministry, the Minister said.
