Uva province to be fully lit up by 2012

Under the concept of "Widulamu Lanka", plans are afoot to launch 63
electricity projects to provide 132 electricity extensions at a cost of
Rs. 674 million in Uva Province, Power and Energy Ministry sources said.
This electrification project is a concept of Power and Energy
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.
Six electricity projects will be launched in Badulla District and 63
new extensions will be set up. The estimated cost for the project is Rs.
118 million.
This electrification project will be launched targeting Mahiyangana
and Ridimaliyadda Divisional Secretariat Divisions in Badulla District,
according to Ministry sources.
Moves are in place to provide electricity extensions in Passara,
Bandarawela, Ella, Haldumulla, Haputhale, Uva-Paranagama, Haliela,
Welimada, Meegahakiuila, Soranathota, and Badulla Divisional Secretariat
Divisions.
Meanwhile 36 electricity projects are to be launched while 132
electricity extensions are to be set up in Moneragala District.
Meanwhile four electrification projects will come up in Moneragala
while setting up new 10 electricity extensions in this area, one project
and two extensions to Siyambalanduwa, 7 projects and 16 extensions to
Badalkumbura, one project and 9 extensions to Bibile, 5 projects and 3
extensions to Madulla, 4 projects and 1 extension to Medhagama, 2
projects and 23 extensions to Thanamalwila, 7 projects and 18 extensions
to Wellawaya and 5 projects and 50 extensions to Buttala will be set up.
Rupees 556 million have been allocated for this project. The Ministry
sources expressed confidence that by next year the entire Uva Province
would be supplied with electricity.
