Thurstan wins Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy

CRICKET: Thurstan College defeated Richmond College Galle by five wickets in their inter school under 19 Twenty20 Triangular cricket tournament final encounter played for the Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy at Thurstan ground yesterday.

Thurstan College also avenged their previous defeat where they went down by two wickets against the same opposition in a qualifying round fixture of the tournament which also featured Nalanda College. But this time Thurstan College got their act together well and bowled out their opponents for just 78 runs with Man of the Match Ramitha Kumarsinghe, Sachith Wijesinghe and Prabodha Arthavindu causing the damage.

In reply Thurstan College reached 79 for 5 with eight balls to spare despite a good spell of bowling from Dileepa Priyadarshana (3 for 16). Thurstan's Prabodha Arthavindu was named Man of the Tournament.

Richmond: 78 in 18.2 overs (D. de Silva 18, R. Kumarasinghe 3 for 10, S. Wijesinghe 2 for 11, P. Arthavindu 2 for 24).

Thurstan: 79 for 5 in 18.4 overs (K. Kulasekera 17 n.o, D. Priyadarshana 3 for 16) C.D.
