Master Games should draw crowds to Sri Lanka

MASTER GAMES: Sri Lanka is among 40 countries invited to participate to compete in four different sports in the Master Games. The four sports are: Badminton (16th to 19th September), Beach Football (29th Sept to 9th October), Beach Handball (13th to 23rd October) and Table Tennis (17th to 27th November) in the venues of Colombo, Kandy, Negombo and Marawila.

Over 3,000 competitors from around 40 countries will take part in the International Master Games. Competitors from top European nations such as Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, England, Scotland, Poland, Russia, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Belgium, Finland, Liechtenstein and Turkey will vie for honours along with Australia and New Zealand.

Asian nations which will take part are: Japan, Korea, China, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, UAE, Iran and Philippines. The International Master Games are being organised by the Asian German Sports Exchange Program in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports.

The aim of organising the tournament is to give veteran Sri Lanka players the much needed exposure and to promote Sri Lanka as a tourist destination.
