"This is the first time that Borouge has had a technical presentation in Sri Lanka. We see a great potential for growth and feel that this is an ideal time and opportunity to introduce the new grades of Borouge's Borstar PE and PP for film and moulding to the Sri Lanka market," he said.

Borouge has its manufacturing plant in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and headquarters in the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, employs approximately 1,600 people representing more than 40 nationalities and serves customers in more than 50 countries across the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Indian sub-continent and Africa."

Borouge invested US$ 1.2 billion to build the first petrochemical facility in the Middle East, equipped with the proprietary Borstar technology from Borealis.

Initially having a total manufacturing capacity of only 450.000 tons per year, by 2005 the complex consisted of an ethylene cracker (EU1) and two Borstar bimodal polyethylene units (PE1/PE2), each capable of producing 300,000 tons of bimodal polyethylene taking the total capacity to 600,000 tons per year.

In 2010 Borouge tripled its annual production capacity in Abu Dhabi to two million tons of Borstar polyolefin's per year. This project includes an additional ethane cracker, a third polyethylene unit, an olefins conversion unit for the conversion of ethylene to propylene and two new polypropylene units, spearheading the company's entrance into polypropylene production.

An additional 2.5 million tons per year will be introduced by mid-2014 to create the world's largest integrated polyolefin plant.

Borouge is also investing in plants and logistics hubs in Asia and an Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi. Borouge and Borealis have a manufacturing capacity of over 5.4 million tons of polyethylene and polypropylene annually.
