National Astronomy and Physics Olympiads in July 10

Applications are called from schoolchildren who wish to participate at the Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad 2011, Sri Lankan Junior Astronomy Olympiad-2011 and the Sri Lankan Physics Olympiad 2011 due on July 2.

The two Astronomy Olympiad competitions will be held just after the Physics Olympiad competition, facilitating students to face all the Olympiads on the same day.

The three competitions will be held in all three languages at the examination centres in Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Batticaloa, jaffna and Vavuniya. Those who perform well in the national competition will receive medals and certificates. A maximum of five students will be selected to be sent to Poland in August/September to participate at the fifth International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Meanwhile, the best eight and five students selected from the Junior Olympiad and Physics Olympiad will be sent to the 43rd International Physics Olympiad in Estonia in July 2012 and the 13th Asian Physics Olympiad in India in April 2012.

These Olympiads are organised by the Institute of Physics - Sri Lanka with the support of the Ministry of Education.

The application forms for these competitions can be obtained from the IPSL website www.ip-sl.org. The deadline for applications is June 15.
