Calvary Supercross in Pangolla Circuit today

MOTOR RACING: A total of 25 events - 13 in the motor cars category and 12 in the motor cycles category will be worked off at the 2nd annual Cavalry Supercross organised by the Sri Lanka Association for Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) and the Army which will be worked off at the Pangolla Army Unit in Kurunegala today (June 5th) commencing at 8 a.m.

Some of the events will also form part of the SLARDAR Championship and the points earned by the winners will be taken into account for the final reckoning of the championship.

The President of the SLARDAR Yoga Perera said that the racing track at Pangolla is in superb condition thanks to the efforts of the Army Engineers and the SLARDAR officials who had to put in some hard work to provide the thrills to the large number of spectators who are expected to witness this event which is the only one of its kind in the Wayamba Province.

SLARDAR who organised the Foxhill Supercross along with the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa set with resting success which was witness by a record crowd hopes to conduct the Cavalry Supercross also in the same manner said the Secretary of SLARDAR Palitha Ratnayake. The most looked forward event will be the two super cars events SL GT Cars upto 3500 cc which will feature some of the top drivers in the country including Aravind Premadasa, Dinesh Deheragoda, Ashan Silva, Rizvi Farook, Riyas Farook, Malindu Perera, Pasindu Peiris, Janaka Dias, Shafras Junaid, Shantha Suraweera and Manish Gunatillake. This event is going to be a battle between the Subaru's and the Mitsubishi Evaluations with all being of 2000 cc capacity.

The first race will be the seventh event of the day second race the 23rd event of the day. A total of 11 competitors will vie for honours in this gravel track.

The other motor car events which is expected to be worked off are:

One make event of Subaru upto 2000 cc, Group SL A Mini 7 1000 cc event, Group SL B Cars Ford Laser/ Mazda 1000 cc, Group SL A Cars upto 1050 cc, Group SL H Cars upto 1600 cc, Group T and J Trucks and Jeeps Turbo upto 5500 cc, Group SL N Cars Laser/ Mazda upto 1500 cc, Group SL H Cars upto 1600 cc, Group SL-N One Make event Nissan March upto 1000 cc, Group Trucks and Jeep open.

Twenty three riders have entered the two races for Group MX Motocross bikes upto 125 cc (2T) and 250 cc (4 T). Two riders from India K.P. Arvind and C.S. Santosh who sparked at the Foxhill Supercross are among the participants. Gayan Sandaruwan who has carved a niche for himself in the local motor racing soon will be the one to watch along with Tonoya Suzuk from Japan.

The event lined up for the two wheelers are: Group M Street Trail bikes upto 125 cc, Racing motor cycles upto 85 cc under 13 years, Standard - Modified Motor cycles street Trail upto 125 cc, Group MI Motocross Bikes upto 85 cc (2T) and 150 cc (4T). Under 16 years: Group J Motor cycles FV and QK upto 50 cc under-10 years, Group M Standard Modified Street Trail Bikes upto 250 cc, Group MI Motocross Bikes upto 125 cc, Group SM Super Motard upto 250 cc, Group SM Super Motard upto 450 cc.
