Isipathana defeat Trinity 23 - 18

Issipathana College scored a fine 23 points (1 goal, 2 tries, 1 drop goal, 1 penalty) to 18 (3 tries, 1 penalty) win over Trinity college in their schools Singer shield under 20 Division one rugby tournament match played at Trinity Rugby Stadium, Pallekelle yesterday at half the scores were level at 8 all.

This was Trinity's third defeat for the season and it would have done no good to their morale on the eve of their next week's second leg of the Bradly Shield encounter in Colombo.

Issipathana scored first in the 10th minute through a 40 metre penalty fired by S. Kumara.

But three minutes later Trinity took over the lead when Randika de Alwis broke away to score mid left. Full back Sanschara Shick failed to add the extra points. Trinity 5 - 3.

But the game see scored as Issipathana once again got in front when a kick at goal by fly half Prasad Vivinda was knocked on by a Trinity defender and S. Kumara picked up the ball and scored mid left but failed to add the extra points. Issipathana 8-5.

Trinity equalised in the 35th minute through a 30 metre penalty put over by Sanschana Shief.

After the sides changed ends Issipathana and again took over the lead when Prabath Kumara formed the overlap to score for left and this try was converted by himself. Ishipatha 15-8.

But in the 13th minute the Lions made a ferocious attack on Issipathana's defence and Inzamum Mubarak fell over near the right post. Shick missed an easy kick at goal. Trinity 13-15.

In the 21st minute Issipathana scored again when full back Prabath Kumara touched down mid right but failed to add the extra points. Issipathana 20-13.

Three minutes later Trinity's three quarter moved the ball beautifully with winger Mohamed Sashan giving the finishing touches near the left post. Shick once again failed to add the extra points.

In the final moments of the match Issipathana's full back executed a drop goal from 35 metres
