Rajitha, Shaffi put Police into semis

Sri Lanka Police became the third team to qualify for the Holcim FA Cup semi finals when they trounced Blue Star Sports Club from Kalutara yesterday at Police Park.

It was a ding dong battle during the first session of play and none of the teams failed find the right target to get the most wanted lead. This resulted in the teams returning to the pavilion for lemons with a blank score sheet.

The Police-Blue Star battle continued for 15 more minutes with both teams failing to achieve success. It was policeman Rajitha Jayavilal who broke the hoodoo in the 60th minute to put his side in front. Five minutes later Mohamed Shaffi made things much more harder for Kalutara team by scoring Police's second goal. This put the policemen right on top and they defended their score line till the final whistle to be worthy winners in this game.

Today Navy the title holders will confront another strong outfit from Negombo's Don Bosco SC in the last quarter final at the same venue.
