Committee report on substandard petrol soon

The three-member committee appointed to probe-the substandard petrol
issue would release its report as early as possible, said Petroleum
Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha.

The Committee chaired by Power and Energy Ministry Secretary H.M.C.
Ferdinand has recorded statements from key officials of the Petroleum
Industries Ministry and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) last
week.
The second committee chaired by the CPC Marketing Manager entertains
public complaints on vehicles’ damage due to the substandard petrol.
The committee has received over 1,000 complaints so far and these
complaints are being investigated.
Compensation for the damaged vehicles and filling station pumping
machines will be paid by the CPC, the minister said.
Minister Premajayantha said that the CPC would stake its claim
against the foreign oil supplier. Steps would be taken in terms of the
recommendations of the investigation committee, he said.
Meanwhile Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal (Pvt) Ltd (CPSTL)
Chairman Major General M.R.U. De Soysa said that 3,000 MTs of
substandard petrol of the 20,000 MTs are stored at the Kolonnawa oil
installations.
The recommendations of the investigations committee are awaited for
further action, he said. |
