Committee report on substandard petrol soon

The three-member committee appointed to probe-the substandard petrol issue would release its report as early as possible, said Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha.

The Committee chaired by Power and Energy Ministry Secretary H.M.C. Ferdinand has recorded statements from key officials of the Petroleum Industries Ministry and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) last week.

The second committee chaired by the CPC Marketing Manager entertains public complaints on vehicles’ damage due to the substandard petrol.

The committee has received over 1,000 complaints so far and these complaints are being investigated.

Compensation for the damaged vehicles and filling station pumping machines will be paid by the CPC, the minister said.

Minister Premajayantha said that the CPC would stake its claim against the foreign oil supplier. Steps would be taken in terms of the recommendations of the investigation committee, he said.

Meanwhile Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal (Pvt) Ltd (CPSTL) Chairman Major General M.R.U. De Soysa said that 3,000 MTs of substandard petrol of the 20,000 MTs are stored at the Kolonnawa oil installations.

The recommendations of the investigations committee are awaited for further action, he said.
