Massive volume of work complete in North - Minister Premajayantha
Minister of Petroleum, Power and Energy and General Secretary, United
People Freedom Alliance Susil Premajayantha at the publicity election
rally held at the Weerasingham Hall, Jaffna last week said that under
the leadership of the President a massive volume of work had been
carried out in the North including Jaffna peninsula and in order to fast
track and broaden these development activities it was necessary to
select the candidates contesting from the UPFA at the Pradeshiya Sabha
election to be held on the 23rd. At this meeting where many Ministers
and Deputy Ministers participated, all the candidates contesting the "Pradeshiya
Sabhas" in the North from the UPFA as well as the supporters of the
Front in large numbers attended.

Speaking at the meeting Minister of Traditional Industries and Small
Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda, said that quite a long period
of time the Ministers and Deputy Ministers from the South did not get an
opportunity to come to the North and work with the Northerners together,
but this time round all the Ministers from the South with their
assistants had come to the North and were engaged in the confidence
building process and working collectively for establishing North-South
friendship which was a good omen to take the country forward as one
people. However, it was a sad thing to observe the Tamil United
Liberation Front opposing this move was cooking up various conspiracies
and levelling false allegations against the government. But in quite
contrast to this, his politics was to establish democracy and through it
to obtain their political rights whilst participating in the economic
development of the country.
Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa addressing the
massive gathering of people said that the candidates of the UPFA being
blessed with the active support of almost all the Ministers of the
Cabinet of a government with a 2/3 majority and a leader selected as
President with an unprecedented majority of votes without fear could
promise the people of solving all their problems at the run up to the "Pradeshiya
Sabha' polls, because it was the policy of the government as well, he
added.
He also said that a large number of factories for the North were in
the pipeline including the re-commencement of the Elephant Pass saltern
which would generate ample job opportunities for the youth in the North
which certainly would take Jaffna to its former glory, 30 years ago,
having taken all these into consideration, I solicit from the people of
Jaffna to take necessary steps to make the UPFA candidates win at the
forthcoming Pradeshiya Sabha elections. |
