Wildlife parks to be closed for elephant census
Fifteen wildlife parks in Sri Lanka will be closed for the public on
11, 12 and 13 August to carry out an islandwide elephant survey, a
spokesperson for the Department of Wildlife Conservation said.
The parks will be closed for visitors coming in during the day and
those who have reserved bungalows will be permitted to occupy them
accordingly. Visitors will not be allowed in the parks, because the
field staff will be involved in the elephant survey, the spokesperson
added.
The parks that will be closed for the census are Yala, Lunugamwehera,
Bundala, Wilpattu, Udawalawe, Minneriya, Kawudulla, Wasgamuwa,
Somawathiya, Maduru Oya, Gal Oya, Lahugala-Kithulana, Kumana and
Angammedilla. |
