Archaeology symposium
The National Archaeological Symposium will be held at the auditorium
of the Department of National Museums, Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha,
Colombo 7 at 9.00 am on Tuesday.
It will be held under the patronage of Minister of National Heritage
Dr. Jagath Balasuriya with the participation of Secretary of Ministry of
National Heritage, Kanthi Wijethunge.
Conference on disability employment
A national conference on disability employment with the participation
of International Labour Organisation (ILO) officials, visiting employer
groups, members of EFC Network on Disability and other stakeholders will
be held on Thursday from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. at the Cinnamon Grand,
Colombo.
As a part of the global network of activities, the ILO has organised
a study tour of Sri Lanka for representatives of employer organisations
of Australia, Bangladesh, China, India and Vietnam from July 18 to 22.
Sai Bhajan ghazal singer arrives here
Shri Ravi Raj Nasrey, a ghazal and Bhajan singer of repute will
arrive shortly to present his performance to the devotees of Bhagawan
Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
His first ever performance in Sri Lanka would be at Sai Mandir 22,
Barnes Place, Colombo 7 at 6.00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21 followed by
one at Hindu Ladies College Hall, Wellawatte at 4.30 p.m. on Sunday,
July 24 and at the Sai Centre, Jaffna on Friday, July 29 at 6.00 p.m.
Appeal for help

Dilip Gunawardene of 1st Lane, Nedimala, Dehiwala, a senior figure in
the book trade is suffering with Multiple Myeloma (Plasma Cell Leukaemia).
Dilip is currently being treated by Consultant Haematologist Dr.
Lalhindra Gooneratne. He has to undergo a Bone Marrow transplant at
Vellore, India for which nearly Rs. 3. million is required.

Heart patient appeals for help

G. Balachandran, (64) is suffering from a severe heart ailment and
has been diagnosed as Unstable Angina. He has been advised to undergo
bypass surgery.
Since his income is insufficient to meet the cost of the surgery and
medicine, which will be around Rs. 500,000 he appeals for financial
assistance from the generous public. Those who wish to help him could
remit their contribution to A/C No. 200283712956 of the People's Bank,
Narahenpita branch.



The Government launched a project to restore the Dutch Fort
in Jaffna with Rs. 100 million from the Netherlands.

Secretary of Defence, Gotabaya Rajapaksa opened the Navy
restaurant, “Lighthouse Galley”, located overlooking the
Colombo Lighthouse recently, at the invitation of the
Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Somathilake
Dissanayake. The restaurant is a spacious dining facility
with a panoramic view. It is located right in front of the
historic Colombo Lighthouse facing the alluring blue waters
of the Indian Ocean. |

Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake opened a
new two-storeyed building of the Ginigathena MMV in the
Hatton educational zone recently. Here a group of students
