S.Thomas' Prep in exciting seven runs win

CRICKET: S.Thomas' Prep School, Kollupitiya beat Wesley College 'B' in their 50-overs under 15 cricket tournament match played recently in an exciting finish by 7 runs at Campbell Park.It was a high-scoring match with S.Thomas' made 274 for 8 wickets with Y.Mendis top-scoring with 88. Wesley 'B' best bowler was B.H.Wijesuriya with 3 for 49 in 9 overs.

Wesley College made 267 for 8 wickets in 50 overs with a top score of 87 by L.D.K Perera. The best bowler for S.Thomas' Prep was A.Izath with 3 for 68.

The match was played in the best traditions of the game and R.Gurusinghe of S.Thomas' Prep turned out to be a sportsman when he "walked" when an appeal for caught behind was turned down though it clipped his gloves. Gurusinha walked back to the pavilion.

S.Thomas' Prep: 274 for 8 wkts in 50 overs (Y. Mendis 88, S. Munasinghe 36, D. Gunewardena 32, A.Deen 32, B.H. Wijesuriya 3 for 49, M.M.Rizvi 1 for 5).

Wesley 'B': 267 for 8 wkts in 50 overs (L.D.K. Perera 87, K. Bandarathilleka 27 not out, M.A. Bariq 26, M.M. Rizvi 21 not out; I. Izath 3 for 68, D. Gunawardena 2 for 42, S.Gamage 1 for 32, Y. Mendis 1 for 16).
