CRICKET: Fast bowler Lahiru Jayaratne captured five wickets
for 35 to put Ragama CC well on course to an outright victory over
Sebastianites CC on the second day of their rain hit SLC under 23
division one cricket tournament match which continued at the NCC ground
in Maitland Place yesterday.

All rounder Nilochana Perera hit an unbeaten 74 as Colts CC reached
364 for 7 in their first innings on the second day of their rain hit SLC
under 23 division one cricket tournament match against the SSC which
continued at Maitland Place yesterday.

Bloomfield in first innings lead
Newcomers Leo CC struggled to reach 132 for 4 in reply to
Bloomfield's formidable first innings total of 261 runs on the second
day of their rain hit SLC under 23 division one cricket tournament match
which continued at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Royal clinch Singer under 20 Div. 1 league championship
RUGBY: Royal College clinched the Singer inter school under 20
division one league championship when they edged out Science College
Mount Lavinia 18-15 in their deciding encounter worked off at the Royal
Sports Complex in Reid Avenue yesterday.
The winners collected their points from one goal, one try and two
penalties while Science College responded with one goal, one try and one
penalty.
Lahiru Pavithra scored both tries for Royal while their reliable
place kicker and dynamic fly half Arshad Jamaldeen once again came out
with a splendid performance to fire across two crucial penalties.
Earlier Science College lived upto expectations as the giant killers
in the tournament by taking an early lead before Royal came back into
the game with a magnificent second half rally.
Royal also completed the tournament with an unbeaten record as they
cruised to their eleventh successive victory. The last time Royal won
the league title was in 2009 under the captaincy of fly half Naren

St. Joseph's regain Lady Jayatilleke shield
RUGBY: St. Joseph's College regained the Lady Jayatilleke
Shield after a lapse of two years when they defeated arch rivals S.
Thomas College 24-18 in their annual inter school under 20 division one
league rugby tournament match worked off at Mount Lavinia yesterday.
The Josephians collected their points from two goals and two tries
after having led 12-5 at half time. The Thomians responded with one

Air Force SC in stunning victory
RUGBY: Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club pulled off a stunning
17-12 victory over CH and FC in their Caltex inter club 'A' division
league rugby tournament match worked off at Maitland Crescent yesterday.
The Airmen collected their points from two goals and one penalty while
CH and FC responded with one goal and one try. |
