Three tries in the last 12 minutes play saw St. Anthony's College,
Kandy scored a comfortable 25 points (1 goal, 3 tries, 1 penalty) to 10
(1 goal, 1 penalty) win over Wesley College in their schools under 20
Division One Rugby Tournament Match played at Nittawela yesterday. At
half time the Antonians led 10-7.
It was the Wesleyites who opened scoring when a penalty kick taken by
scrum half Rushan Premaden struck the posts and rebounded into play.
Winger Lahiru Perera picked up the loose ball and scored under the post.
Rushan Premaden added the extra points.
A few minutes later the Antonians responded with a penalty fixed by
full back Chamara Kumara to reduce the lead to 3-7.
In the 23rd minute the Antonians took over the lead when hooker
Tharaka Premalal scored off a maul and Chamara Kumara added the extra
points. Weslyites hit back to equalise after the turn through a 35 metre
penalty fixed by scrum half Rushan Premaden.
The scores stood deadlocked for sometimes with both teams striking
hard to get the deciding points.
