University of Ruhuna - men's champs Kelaniya University - women's champs

VOLLEYBALL: The University of Ruhuna took the men's title while the University of Kelaniya took the women's title for the second consecutive year at the 11th Inter-University Volleyball Championships in Matara.

The tournament was held from July 8 to 10 with teams from 14 universities participating. The University of Sabaragamuwa and University of Rajarata were the runners-up in the men's and women's tourneys while the University of Colombo took third spot in both the men's and women's tourneys.

There were 28 teams that participated in the tournament.

Prof. Gamini Senanayake was the cjief guest at the awards ceremony.
 


University of Ruhuna won men’s tourney captained by Kalindu Liyanage and comprised K.A.S. Kasthuriarachchi, S.S.P. Pushpakumara, T.N.M. Fernando, M.K.R. Anuruddha, R.M.M.B. Ranaweera, D.W.N. University of Kelaniya won women’s tourney captained by A.K.M.R. Siriwardena. The other members were: U.G. Nilanthi, A.A.L. Madhushani, A.J. Dilrukshi, D.M.M.D. Dissanayake, I.K.M.S.P. Dissanayake, M.N.P.S. Wijepala, I.A.N.D. Vijayaratne, M.G.D. Jayanthi, S.M.N. Dulanjali, K.V.D. Priyangika and L.A.H.M. Gunawardena.
