Milo Schools Colours Awards on July 25 at BMICH

COLOURS AWARDS: The 18th ‘Milo’ Sri Lanka Schools Colours award ceremony 2010 is scheduled to be held on July 25 at 2.00pm at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.

This ceremony which recognises the outstanding contributions at school level and International level while at school, is conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Sports Council and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd.

618 boys and girls selected from schools all over the country will receive awards for thirty disciplines at this gala ceremony. The disciplines and the number of recipients are: Volleyball (24), swimming (77), Athletics (64), Aerobic Gymnastics (16), Badminton (29), Baseball (14), Basketball (24), Boxing (15), Carrom (9), Chess (14), Judo (17), Wrestling (3), Cricket (15), Cycling (2), Football (9), Aerobic Gymnastics (12), Hockey (15), Kabbadi (4), Karate (55), Netball (40), Rugby Football (24), Softball Cricket (16), Table Tennis (15), Tennis (15), Weight Lifting (29), Power Lifting (42), Body Building (1), Wushu (4), Mountaineering Climbing (10), Rowing (4).

Western Province tops the number of ‘colours’ winners with 362 from 83 schools while Central Province (109) from 28 schools, Wayamba (62) from 33 schools and Sabaragamuwa (41) from 11 schools are among the top four from the nine provinces.

Nominations have been received to select the winners of the four main categories.

The Most Promising Sportman Of the Year.

1. Y.G.C.N. Wijesinghe (A. Ratnayake MV, Walalla, for Athletics). 2. Hasintha Sasiranga (Dharmasoka, Ambalangoda. Table tennis). 3. R.A.I.S. Ranasinghe(Ananda College, Colombo 10. Weight and Power Lifting).

[The Most Promising Sportswoman of The year: ]

1. Nadeeshani Henderson (Gateway, Rajagiriya, Athletics).

2.Nuwani Navodya (Dharmasoka, Ambalangoda. Table Tennis).

3.Dinukshi Premanath (High School Kandy. Chess).

4.Achini Ratnasiri (Visaka Vidyalaya, Colombo. Badminton)

[The Most Outstanding Sportswoman of the Year 2010: ]

1.Akshana Maralanda (Mahamaya, Kandy. Athletics)

2. Madhavi Weeratunga (Mahamaya, Kandy. Swimming)

3. Tharunya Hashini (Sri Devananda MV, Ambalangoda. Badminton)

4. Miniruvini Samarakoon (Girls High School, Kandy. Swimming)

[Most Outstanding Sportsman of the year 2010: ]

1. Lakshan Koswatte (Ananda College, Colombo 10. Athletics)

2. Chameera Ginige (Dharmasoka, Ambalangoda. Table Tennis)

3. Dilshan Kariyawasam (Ananda, Colombo. Badminton)

4. Heshan Unamboowe (Trinity, Kandy. Swimming)

5. Shenal Dias (St. Peter’s, Bambalapitiya. Rugger and Basketball).
