Sri Lanka International Trade Fair, the largest international trade exhibition in Sri Lanka was inaugurated last Thursday at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre in Colombo.

The exhibition will conclude tomorrow.

The chief guest at the inaugural ceremony was the Ambassador of Thailand in Sri Lanka, Thinakorn Kansuta. He said that international trade has become an important pillar in the global economy and expansion and diversification of trade between countries is an important part. Participation at trade promotional events such as trade exhibitions will open immense opportunities for traders in Sri Lanka, Thailand and India.

This is a platform for companies to establish business links and help boost trade between Sri Lanka and Thailand.

At present the two-way trade between Sri Lanka and Thailand is around $400 million.

The stable Sri Lankan economy after achievement of peace in 2009, will improve economic activities opening new business and trade opportunities, Kansuta said.

Over 30 Thai companies including members of SME Thai Association and a large number of Indian and Sri Lankan companies are participating at the exhibition. Pico Events, Sri Lanka and Introductions Trade Shows, India have organised this exhibition. - GW
