Kenya to set up tea hub

Kenya is looking to set-up a tea hub in the country and this could well pose a threat in the long term, according to MTI Consulting's Intelligence Hub.

"Our associates in Kenya have informed us of a tender by the Tea Board of Kenya to carry out a study of the value-addition feasibility in Kenya and this obviously shows that they intend to set up a tea hub" said, CEO of MTI Consulting Hilmy Cader.

He said that "Although we do not intend to pitch for this consulting tender, it clearly shows their strategic intent.

Our assessment is that in the short-term, Kenya's biggest challenge will be logistics, however the tea industry in Kenya has demonstrated resilience and unwavering commitment in building a globally competitive business in a relatively short time.

So do not 'discount' them.

The current economic crisis in the USA and Europe will also drive customers and consumers to look for better value and Kenya stands to benefit from this".
