Substandard petrol issue:

Vehicle owners given time till Sept 30

Vehicle owners who made claims over the telephone will be given time till September 30 to submit written claims, said Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha.

He said that reimbursement for vehicle owners whose vehicles were damaged due to the substandard petrol will be made next week. Over 1,800 claims have been received by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) in this regard, the Minister said.

The committee appointed to probe the substandard petrol issue has recommended a payment of Rs. 50,000 for damaged vehicles. Claims over Rs. 50,000 will also be taken into account, he said.
