No queues for physically handicapped at LG Polls

The elders and the physically handicapped could cast their ballots first time at the forthcoming Local Government elections without waiting in queues, said Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshappriya.

Around twenty five percent of the population are visually impaired or physically handicapped, it is revealed. An extra junior preciding officer (EJPO) will be assigned to each polling booth to help them cast their votes, he said.

Meanwhile most of the candidates have shown a keen interest to maintain an environment friendly election campaign, specially in the Colombo city.

This time city walls are free from posters unlike in previous years. This is commendable, he said.
