Child meant for adoption to be sold?

A three-year-old girl, who lost her parents in Kuwait and was sent by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Kuwait to the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA), was sent to a children's home, while there was a Sri Lankan couple ready to adopt her.

With the intervention of the Kuwait Embassy, the child who was abandoned in a Kuwait hospital, was to be given for adoption to a couple in Kuwait, who had fulfilled the adoption procedure. However, according to these sources, some officials at the NCPA violated child probation laws and have transferred the child to a children's home in Ja-Ela.

The source said institutionalization is the last option but officials had sent the child to a children's home while there was a couple who had come all the way from Kuwait to adoption her.

"We first received information that the child was sold but she is still at the children's home. Meanwhile, officials have arranged to give her to another couple", they said.

Attempts to contact NCPA Chairman Anoma Dissanayake failed. SS
