Brothels raided, three quizzed
The Walana Vice Squad raided two brothels last week at Kiribathgoda
and Maradana. Three women were taken in for questioning in this
connection. The brothels were raided following search warrants from the
Wattala and Maligakande Magistrate's Courts, sources told the Sunday
Observer.
A policeman who posed off as a businessman was offered a woman sex
worker for Rs. 4,000 at the brothel at Kiribathgoda by the woman
manageress. The sex worker and the woman manageress were thereafter
taken for questioning by the police. They were handed over to the
Kiribathgoda police.
Meanwhile, police raided another brothel near a popular school at
Maradana and took in for questioning a 39-year-old pregnant woman and a
52-year-old man who supplied the woman to the police decoy.
Two other women at the brothel and an effeminate man were also
quizzed.The suspects were handed over to the Kiribathgoda and the
Mardana police for further investigations.
Two months ago seven women found in a brothel at Dankotuwa area were
fined Rs. 50,000 each by the Marawila Magistrate when the suspects
pleaded guilty. The brothel was raided by Inspector Duminda Balasuriya,
OIC, Walana Vice Squad, Panadura after obtaining a search warrant from
the Marawila Magistrate courts. (JJ)
