A great woman who touched my life

“We live, and work and dream
Each one has a little scheme
Sometimes we laugh
Sometimes we cry
And thus the days go
by and by.”
This is a quote from an anonymous author, which I think to be true
for the life of my loved and respected teacher, and mentor Malini
Ranasooriya (nee Wijesekera). She dedicated her entire life to Sri
Sumangala Balika Vidyalaya, Panadura, as a student, teacher, Vice
Principal and the Principal, until her retirement in 1986.
As she celebrates her 85th birthday on the 25th of September, she can
reflect on the years gone by and be happy that they have more smiles and
laughter than tears.
You were always available, always approachable and always willing to
listen. As a teacher and administrator you were gentle and soft spoken,
but maintained high standards of discipline.
I am both happy and proud that I had the opportunity to work closely
with her on the committee of the Past Student’s Association, where she
was the President for many years. Now she is our most Senior Vice
President and we are proud of it.
Mrs. Ranasooriya you have lived an exemplary life, as a dedicated
teacher, Principal, social worker, and a respected and worthy daughter
of Mother Lanka. To all of us Sumangalians who were fortunate to be your
pupils, your intellect, wise counsel and gentle humour have helped us to
be what we are in life today.
You have been a role model, mentor and a guiding light to us. On this
special day as you celebrate another milestone in your life, this is a
sincere wish to you from me and all past students.
May the years to come
Be filled with
Fun and Laughter.
May the Most Noble
Triple Gem
Bless you with
Good Health,
Happiness and
Contentment.
