Northern Province youth show capabilities with bat and ball...

Rehabilitation Scheme: It was something out of the ordinary. The 500 youth from the North with Navadeepan who fell into unwanted problems in the past were taken to the South on a familiarisation tour where a cricket match was played for all to enjoy.

Navadeepan and 499 other rehabilitated youth were the guests of Ministers Dullas Alahapperuma and Chandrasiri Gajadeera from the Ministries of Prison Reforms and Rehabilitation and Youth Affairs and Skills Development who entertained the youth on the tour named 'From the land of the Palmyra grove to the land of the Coconut grove' a fortnight ago.

And what better way to entertain the youth from the North than to play a cricket match at the Uyanwatte Stadium, Matara where a ten-over cricket match in the Sri Lanka's star cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya played for the Ministerial XI against the youth from the North. Northern Province skipper Navadeepan had something to remember for a longtime as he claimed the wicket of star batsman Sanath Jayasuriya who flew down from Kandy to be a active participant at the match.

The lads from the North showed that they are capable cricketers as they beat the Ministerial Invitation XI led by Jayasuriya by nine wickets.

Ministerial Invitation XI: 63 for 6 wickets in 10 overs (Sanath Jayasuriya 15, Weerasumana Weerasingha 11; N. Navadeepan 2 for 21).

Northern Youth XI: 64 for 1 wkt in 7 overs (Anthony Edward Alavin 34 not out, Selvanadan Ainkaran 15 not out, Vimalanadan Vinod 10; Weerasumana Weerasinghe 1 for 15).
