ICASL and Southern Queensland University to explore programs
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) will
explore new programs for professional development with the support of
the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, said ICASL President
Sujeewa Mudalige.
He was addressing the ICASL Business School Convocation on Wednesday.
He said that the business school will be equipped with a
state-of-the-art facility following the completion of a 40,000 sq.ft
complex in Colombo next year.
ICASL honoured 74 holders of Masters in Business Administration and
61 diploma holders in Business Management.
"We are subjecting every program and priority to a serious review.The
Business School will launch an undergraduate program shortly", Mudalige
said.
ICASL is a pioneering professional body with over 4,000 members and a
35,000 student base. The institute was set up in 1959.
Dean of Business and Law and Pro Vice Chancellor, University of
Southern Queensland, Prof. Allon Layton said the Sri Lankan economy is
progressing well and added that ICASL is helping young entrepreneurs to
harness their skills for economic growth.
"The University of Southern Queensland will support ICASl in its
endeavour to promote professional development in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is
enormously gifted in this respect", Prof. Layton said.
The University of Southern Queensland has been supporting the ICASL
Business School for over ten years.
Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC Managing Director, Kishu Gomes said that
sending Sri Lankan workers abroad and getting down professionals from
overseas to work in Sri Lanka is suicidal.
"People are the greatest asset of a country and steps should be taken
to harness their talent. Professional education and training will help
develop human capital", he said.
Twenty special prizes were awarded to students who fared well at
