University process on schedule - UGC

The Higher Education Ministry to commence the entire university system and continue academic activities based on the scheduled university calendar this year, Additional Secretary of the University Grants Commission, Dr.Priyantha Premakumara said.

On a concept of Higher Education Minister S.B.Dissanayake, it is expected to conduct the academic activities of all universities on a proper university calendar this year by stressing the importance of an effective university network. Upto now, the universities commenced their academic activities based on the necessities of that particular university, he said.

As a result of the Leadership Training program introduced by the Ministry, this year the new students will enter into universities through the pre-qualifications needed for a university student.

This change was made for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka. The arrangements made the Ministry to enrol new students to all universities in October this year has already achieved nearly 90 percent of progress, he said.

Except for the Management Faculty of Rajarata University, steps have been taken to commence all the faculties of universities in October and November this year, he said.
