Anuradhapura Central stun Isipathana

Maris Stella, St. Benedict's,. D.S.Senanayake and St.Sebastian's Moratuwa, have already booked a berth to play in the quarter finals of the Munchee Schools Six-A-Side Tournament conducted by the Old Wesleyites Sports Club at Campbell Park yesterday.

Fancied teams and former winners of the trophy Nalanda,Prince Of Wales, St.Peter's , St.Joseph's, Ananda and Isiipathana were eliminated from the tournament after losing their first round matches.

One of the major upsets were Isipathana losing to Anuradapura Central in a close match. Royal College Colombo recorded a good win, defeating St.Peter's College by 13 runs .

Supun Subasinghe struck an unbeaten 36 for Royal while Devin Pathmanathan took 2 for 10.

Ananda lost to Royal ,Panadura by 16 runs. Asanka Alwis of Royal Panadura was the top scorer of the day scoring 62 n.o including three sixes and eight fours. The Panadura Royalists also went on to chalk up the highest team score for the day 96 for 3 against Isuru MV Habarana. 36 teams participated in the tournament which included two International schools and teams from remote areas in the island. The tournament will come to an end today with the chief guest at the closing ceremonies being Ms Shea Wickramasinghe, Managing Director of CBL.

First Round - Thurstan 50 for 1 in 4 overs (Ashan Wanigaratne 20, Sajeewa Salgado 29 n.o.) beat Carey 46 for in 3 overs (S. Tharaka 15: Rajitha Perera 2 for 8).

St Sebastian's 57 for 3 in 4.2 overs (Luke Jayadeva 16, Anuk de Alwis 15, Anushka Perera 19 n.o.) beat Lyceum International 56 for 1 in 5 overs.

DSS 42 for no loss in 1.4 overs (N. Duleeka 18 n.o., R. Shavin 16 n.o.) beat St Thomas Matale 41 in 4.3 overs (S. Harsha 2 for 9).

CWW Kannangara MMV 51 for 1 in 3.2 overs (R. Ishara 26 n.o., N. Pawan 17 n.o.).

Royal Colombo 65 for no loss in 3.3 overs (Supun Subasinghe 31 n.o.) beat Lumbini MV 64 for 1 in 5 overs (R. Damith 42). Royal Panadura 96 for 3 in 5 overs (Charith Ruchiranga 29, Hashan Padmakumara 22 n.o.: N. Pavithra 2 for 12) beat Habarana Isuru MV 70 for 4 in 5 overs (R. Buddika 28). Joseph Vaz 72 for no loss (Kasun Vidura 40 n.o., Primash Obrish 23 n.o.) beat Prince of Wales 71 for 2 in 5 overs (Ashen Mendis 33, Kusal Mendis 33 n.o.). Anuradhapura Central 68 for 1 in 4.5 overs (Sandeep Nisansala 30, Kasun Mihiranga 18 n.o.) beat Isipathana 65 for 1 in 5 overs (Harith Kavindu 37 n.o., Deshan Jeyakumar 23 n.o.).

Ladies Semi Final - Sumana Balika BV Ratnapura 97 for no loss in 5 overs (Hansima Karunaratne 41 n.o., Indunil Madubash Madushani (32 n.o) beat Gothami BV 91 for 2.
