Universal Children's Day:

How they celebrated with the President

All roads led to Temple Trees for 1200 children from selected schools on October 1, the day our little island nation celebrates Universal Children's Day.Eyes glistening with excitement and hearts filled with great expectations, the children, the wealth of our nation,eagerly made their way to

Temple Trees to celebrate their own special day with none other than the President of their motherland, Mahinda Rajapaksa. And it was indeed a memorable day in their little lives for the event held on a grand scale did not fail to make them feel so very special.

The National Universal Children's Day celebrations based on the theme " Whose are these children? They are yours and ours. Let us protect them like our country and the Nation" was organised by the Ministry of Child Development and Womens' Affairs under the distinguished patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa .

The day's celebrations which commenced by 10.in the morning comprised a number of events including the presentation of trophies and prizes to the first three winners and selected participants in the Childrens' Day drawing competitions held a few month ago , the releasing of a stamp to mark Children's Day,the launching of the the book "Pipithambarana" and the introduction of a special national

An album containing photographs of special events related to children held in the island was also handed over to the President. 

In his message to the children the President said all must realize that this is a historic era and pointed out that children must resolve to become excellent personalities in society just as their ancestors were .."You are living in a period which will be commemorated with great pride by the world in future.

“You too should strive to achieve excellence which will help record you and your name in history.I sincerely hope that you will use your childhood meaningfully towards achieving that end" he said.
