Kandy development drive gathers momentum

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has promised to build a domestic airport
in Kandy. A 100-acre land from Kundasale has already been allocated for
this purpose, Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the Sunday
Observer.Minister Rambukwella said a 100-acre land from Karandagolla,
Kundasale has been allocated for the project and the required number of
acres will be used from this land to build the airport.
A feasibility study would be conducted soon and wind belts would be
checked with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Air Force. Discussions are
to be held soon with the Air Chief Marshal in connection with the
project.
According to Minister Rambukwella, the Bogambara Prison would be
removed from Kandy on a longstanding request the public.
A mega water supply project is to be implemented in Kundasale at a
cost of Rs. 1,400 million.
It will provide safe drinking water to more than 20,000 people in the
area. Cabinet approval has already been granted to the proposal made by
Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
The Minister said all infrastructure development work in Kandy would
be completed within two years. The responsibility of the Government
towards the people of Kandy became heavier after the latest LG polls
victory of the UPFA in Kandy because the people placed their compelte
trust on the Government and voted for the UPFA, marking a historical
election victory. |
