Czech Govt to aid development projects

The Government of the Czech Republic has shown its willingness to grant a $ 2.2 billion loan for Sri Lanka's development.

This matter was discussed when a high level business delegation from the Czech Republic led by Trade Minister Martin Kocourek met Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa during their recent visit. DY

 


Livelihood development projects

The Economic Development Ministry has allocated Rs. 440 million to implement livelihood development projects in the Puttalam district under the Gama Neguma program.

Rs. 108 million will be spent for electricity, water supply and rural road development projects while Rs. 129.6 million will be allocated for irrigation projects, Rs. 86.4 million for maternity clinics, Rs. 108 million for school toilets and Rs. 8 million for pre-schools in 548 Grama Niladari Divisions in 16 Divisional Secretariat Divisions, according to Ministry sources. Lankan selected world's best tour guide

A Sri Lankan tour guide has been selected as the world's best guide by the British travel magazine Wanderlust.

Noel Bruno Dawsan said he was delighted and will help disadvantaged people into further education with his bursary. A Tamil of Indian origin he comes from a family of tea pluckers. He was hailed by the judges as a "true cultural ambassador."
 


YMBA welcomes donations to Cancer Hospital

The YMBA Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia has been making a substantial donation in cash and kind to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital in the past making it an annual event.This year too, they have made arrangements to hold this event on Sunday, October 23 in the morning at Maharagama Cancer Hospital and the Cancer Home.Those interested in making donations to this very worthy cause may contact Hon. President, YMBA Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia.


Kidney patient appeals for help

Mrs. Elizabeth Peiris, of 100/3, Egodawatta Road, Hunumulla, is suffering from severe kidney ailment. Consultant Nephrologist Dr. Surjith Somiah of Lanka Hospitals Ltd., has recommended immediate O+ kidney transplant.

The surgery is estimated to cost around Rs. 975,000 and another Rs. 56,000 per month for dialysis.

She appeals to a kind donor for a kidney and to contact 0729-697114.

Financial contributions could be made to A/c No: 10009-05-3255-0 of National Savings Bank (NSB), Negombo branch.
