The happy couple Chandradasa and Menike at it again

ATHLETICS: The ever willing couple - R.A. Chandradasa and his wife
K.G.G. Menike, very popularly known as the athletic couple of Ratnapura,
were felicitated by the Sri Lanka Masters Athletic Association for
participating for 25 years without a break at the Veterans Athletic
Meet.

At this year's meet, the 25th Veterans Athletic Meet held at the
Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Diyagama, Menike won the 100
metres, 200 metres and 5,000 metres Walking Race. Husband Chandradasa
won his pet event - 80 Metres Hurdles.
To Menike goes the honour of establishing 16 records in various
events at the Veterans Athletic Meet and husband Chandradasa has four
records. K.G.G. Menike's records established from 1986 to 2010 includes
5km walk 35 mins 13.7 seconds to 100 metres, 200 metres, 80 metres
hurdles and 300 metres hurdles at various meets.Chandradasa, aged 55 got
2 mins 10.0 seconds in 800 metres, 1 min 11.2 seconds in 400 metres
hurdles, 19.4 seconds as a 60 year-old in 100 metres hurdles and 18.5
seconds in 80 metres hurdles a 70-year-old last year. |
